Charles Lindsey, MD, a hospitalist who cares for inpatients at City of Hope Cancer Center Chicago (formerly Cancer Treatment Centers of America [CTCA]), says it's just as valuable for patients to get the time and attention they deserve from their doctors as it is the treatments they need to fight the disease. He feels patients' families need time to talk with their loved ones' doctors, too. "By treating patients with dignity, respect and compassion, and listening to and talking with them, we're showing how much we care and helping to lessen their anxiety," says Dr. Lindsey. "At City of Hope, we truly listen to patients and we work collaboratively. In many ways, we are a close-knit family."
