Wayne County National Bank, founded as The Wayne County Branch of the State Bank of Ohio, officially opened for business in Wooster, Ohio in 1845. Credit for creating the bank belongs to Ephraim Quinby, Jr. and David Robison who, in the early 1840s, decided to take advantage of the Kelley Banking Act by organizing a bank branch in Wooster, Ohio. Their bank received its State Charter three years later, and in 1865, the bank earned its National Charter and changed its name to The Wayne County National Bank. Mr. Robison served as the bank's first President, and Mr. Quinby served as Cashier, the person who actually ran daily bank operations in those early years. From the bank's inception, beginning with only a dream and small means, WCNB has grown steadily every year since. And despite both environmental disasters and local economic downturns, WCNB has managed to remain strong during its long history as one of the oldest banks in the state of Ohio. WCNB takes great pride in the honors and awards it has received from independent analytical firms such as Golembe and Bank Stock Analyst, as well as Blue Ribbon Ratings from Veribanc, which place WCNB in the top 14 percent of all banks in the United States. And, WCNB consistently receives a four or five star rating each quarter from the Bauer Financial Group. These ratings are given to only the strongest and most credit worthy banks in the nation. WCNB has seen many changes take place throughout its history, but one thing has remained constant.
