Sono Luminus started in 1995 when Len Bosack and Sandy Lerner, founders of Cisco Systems, decided that their expertise in digital signal processing, computational mathematics and physics would enable them to bring a new level of recording fidelity to music. The team's mission is to bring a new audio experience to the home listener through a new approach to the miking, mixing, mastering of the new digital discrete, multi-channel recording formats.They acquired Dorian Recordings 2005, and are based in Winchester, VA. Dorian Sono Luminus are recognized as an industry leader in the production of high-resolution audio recordings of early and classical music and feature some of the best and brightest artists in these genres. The Dorian / Sono Luminus catalog includes more than 350 titles, with repertoire drawn from a thousand years of music. In addition to an extensive selection of early music CDs, DSL presents chamber, orchestral, choral, 20th-century, contemporary and acoustic folk/traditional recordings as well as music of Latin American Masters, Dorian has been recognized at home and abroad for innovations in audio technology, world-class artists, far-seeing repertoire policies, and unfailing dedication to quality. Dorian / Sono Luminus received top recognition at the 31st International Audio Engineering Society Conference when Dorian received the “Award of Excellence”. The judges, who included AES board members and the conference chairman, noted the natural blend of the mixing, localization of the instruments and the ambience of each space. The judges were impressed with the selections, “Las Estreyas”, from BRIO’s upcoming release, Romance, (DSL-90708) which features counter-tenor, Jose Lemos, and “Happy Happy Pair”, from Handel’s Alexander’s Feast recorded by Bach Sinfonia.
