Description of DuPage Community Clinic

Since 1989, the DuPage Community Clinic, a 501(c)3, has addressed a disparity in DuPage County that can be improved only through a coalition of organizations and individuals providing medical and dental care to the uninsured in our community. Without the DuPage Community Clinic, these individuals would be seeking health care through hospital emergency rooms, usually in crisis. With improved health, our patients and their families have hope restored. The DuPage Community Clinic provides these men, women and children free primary, diagnostic and therapeutic medical and dental intervention. There are over 300 on-site health and dental care professionals and referral specialists who voluntarily provide laboratory and other diagnostic testing and therapeutic procedures at no cost to our patients. Long-term prescription medications are dispensed through our Drug Assistance Program with the help of donations from pharmaceutical companies. A small paid staff is necessary to ensure continuity of care as well as efficient clinic operation. Our patients are registered with Access DuPage, a county wide health coalition. In addition to the standard medical and dental care, thirteen specialty clinics address specific health care needs: diabetes, hypertension, neurology, asthma, gastroenterology, ENT, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, ophthalmology, gynecology and behavioral health. The dramatic impact these health issues have on our patients' lives led our nursing staff to develop disease management programs. These clinics improve or stabilize the patient's health through patient education, in conjunction with the prescribed medications. Support for the dental clinic, like the medical clinic, comes from volunteer professionals and the dental community. It is the only free dental clinic serving the residents of DuPage County. A formal collaboration with the College of DuPage Dental Hygiene program brings second year students on site for a clinic rotation under the supervision of a licensed basic dental treatment and referrals to specialists when necessary. You'll see hope in the faces of our patients who have been given the respect and care they deserve. You'll see hope in the faces of volunteers who have been touched by lives they change and sometimes save. You'll see hope in the faces of donors who invest in changing their world for the better through the DuPage Community Clinic.
