Info
The Children's Community Development Center (CCDC), is a non-profit, educational childcare center serving families with children from infancy through their preschool years. Professionals in early childhood care and education established CCDC in 1979. The program provides enrichment and support to families and children who live or work in mid-Fairfield County, Connecticut. Emphasis is placed on the quality of the interactions among the staff and children and on the developmental appropriateness of the curriculum. The programs are designed to allow different age groups of children to develop in a secure homelike environment responsive to their changing abilities and needs. Goals for children include social and personal growth and overall competence in early skill development. Interactions between staff and children are characterized by warmth, mutual respect and affection. Daily communication between staff and parents insures that each child's program will be in his/her best interest, providing continuity between home and school. Staff-to-child ratios are kept low to accommodate individual needs. CCDC was founded as a parent cooperative and continues to embrace this philosophy in spirit and in practice. While day-to-day management is the responsibility of the professional staff, parents provide support and direction. Staff are a resource for developmental and practical care giving knowledge while parents volunteer time and skills as needed. CCDC is managed by a Board of Directors, which consists primarily of representatives from the parent body. Meetings are open to all members of the organization. The cooperative nature of CCDC contributes to a strong sense of community.
