New York Community Bancorp, Inc. is the $30.6 billion multi-bank holding company for New York Community Bank, a New York State-chartered savings bank with 179 banking offices serving customers throughout the Metro New York/New Jersey region, and New York Commercial Bank, a New York State-chartered commercial bank with 38 branches serving consumers and businesses in the New York City boroughs of Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn, and the counties of Nassau, Suffolk, and Westchester - all in New York. New York Community Bank is currently the sixth largest thrift in the nation and the fourth largest thrift in the market we serve. Our roots go back to 1859, when we were chartered by the State of New York in the New York City borough of Queens. Since then, we have grown from a single branch in Flushing to 179 locations serving customers in the New York City boroughs of Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx and Staten Island; Nassau, Suffolk, and Westchester counties in New York; and the New Jersey counties of Essex, Hudson, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean and Union. In New York, we operate 122 branches of the Community Bank through four local divisions, reflecting the growth of our franchise through a series of mergers with other local thrifts: Queens County Savings Bank, with 34 branches in Queens County; Richmond County Savings Bank, with 23 banking offices on Staten Island; Roosevelt Savings Bank, with eight branches in Brooklyn; and our largest division, Roslyn Savings Bank, with 57 locations in Nassau and Suffolk counties on Long Island. We also operate two branches each in the Bronx and Westchester County that operate directly under the name "New York Community Bank". In New Jersey, we currently serve our customers through two divisions: Garden State Community Bank, with 34 branches in Essex, Hudson, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Union, and Ocean counties; and Synergy Bank, with 19 branches in Union, Monmouth, and Middlesex. Later on in 2008, the 19 branches of Synergy Bank will be rebranded so that all 53 of our New Jersey branches will operate through the Garden State Community Bank division, a name that is synonymous with New Jersey, and more fully reflects our commitment to those who live and work in the state. We operate our branches with an emphasis on convenience, with 204 locations that feature 24-hour ATM banking, and 174 of our 179 Community Bank branches open at least six days a week. We also offer our customer 24-hour access to their accounts with online banking, and the ability to bank 24/7 by phone.
