Mad River Theater Works is a rural professional theater company based in West Liberty, Ohio. Our purpose is to craft plays that are drawn from and produced for the people of the rural Midwest as well as audiences from throughout the country and the world. We interview local residents and research historical issues with contemporary relevance. We use this material to create original plays with music. We perform our work at home and on tour to multi-generational audiences with a primary emphasis on appearances in small towns and farm communities throughout our region. We also conduct residencies in which we work with students, teachers, and community members in small towns to create and perform an original play based on the history of their community.
