The Wauconda Fire Department provides Fire, Rescue and Emergency Medical Services to a community of approximately 40,000 people. Within approximately 50 square miles, the Wauconda Fire Department serves all or part of the following municipalities in northeastern Illinois: Port Barrington, Hawthorn Woods, Island Lake, Lake Barrington, Lakemoor, North Barrington, Tower Lakes, Volo and Wauconda as well as some unincorporated areas of Lake and McHenry Counties. Dedicated, highly trained people and programs designed for education and prevention, are components which distinguish the Wauconda Fire Department as more than just a community service agency. Twenty four hour coverage at two fire stations provide emergency response to over 3000 calls for help per year. In addition to fire, medical and ambulance calls, full-time and paid-on-call members perform non-emergency duties. Regular routines include fire prevention, vehicle and building maintenance, fire safety education and, CPR and First Aid classes. Since its formation in 1889, the Wauconda Fire Department has worked diligently to meet the changing needs of the communities it serves. One element that has not changed is its commitment to protecting life and property. Many residents believe the level of service and the character of the personnel are the finest anywhere.
