CINE is internationally recognized for its highly acclaimed film and video competitions and related educational support activities which culminate every year in a gala Awards Event held in the Washington, D.C. area. CINE has a wide following in the film and video industry nationally and internationally, drawing over 1,000 entries per year into its prestigious competitions, which have been taking place since 1957. CINE's Golden Eagle Film and Video Awards Event is held annually in Washington, D.C. In addition to presentations of its Special Jury and Masters Series Awards to the best of the previous year's CINE Golden Eagle Award winners, CINE presents major honorary awards to the highest achievers in the visual arts. In the past few years, CINE's honorary awards have been presented to such industry leaders as Executive Vice President of HBO Sheila Nevins, acclaimed documentary filmmaker Ken Burns, the pioneering comedy team The Smothers Brothers, entrepreneur and innovator Ted Turner, iconic commentator Bill Moyers, and PBS chief executive Pat Mitchell. In 2004, we added president and CEO of WETA Sharon Rockefeller, cinema verit, pioneers D.A. Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus, and the outstanding filmmaker Stanley Nelson to this distinguished list. At our 46th annual Gala in 2005, we honored preeminent film critic Roger Ebert, USA Network and Sci-Fi Network President Bonnie Hammer, and trailblazing filmmakers Alan and Susan Raymond. Our 2006 event included a tribute to the great documentary filmmaker Albert Maysles. CINE is building its contemporary image on a prestigious record. Originally founded to present a realistic view of the U.S., its people, products, and philosophy, by showcasing the best of American documentary films to overseas audiences, CINE's mission has broadened to include recognizing and fostering overall excellence in film and video production, especially among new and emerging talent, and providing educational and programmatic services to support its goals. CINE Golden Eagle winners include such internationally recognized artists and producers/directors as Steven Spielberg,Ron Howard, Robert Altman,John Lasseter, George Lucas, Mike Nichols, Robert Zemeckis, Frederick Wiseman, Barbara Kopple, Debra Chasnoff, Charles Guggenheim, Albert Maysles, David Grubin, Ken Burns, and many others. There are 28 categories in the CINE Golden Eagle Film and Video Awards Competition in six production areas , professional telecast non-fiction, professional telecast entertainment/fiction, professional telecast news, professional non-telecast, independent productions, and student/adult amateur. Filmmakers and video producers and their sponsors/distributors may enter by completing the form on the CINE Website (www.cine.org) or by contacting CINE directly for an entry form. CINE Awards are greatly valued in the moving-image industries. Golden Eagle winners are eligible for the CINE Special Jury Awards, based on a "best of category" determination by panels of distinguished jurors. Special Jury Awards winners in turn automatically compete for CINE's top film and video honors , the CINE Masters Series Awards, which recognize the highest-ranking winners in five professional divisions, and the CINE Award of Excellence for the most deserving student/non-professional work. The CINE Masters Series Awards are sponsored by Henninger Media Services, which is providing a total of $25,000 in film and video services to the winners. The CINE Award of Excellence is sponsored by Eastman Kodak, which has traditionally provided product grants to winners and runners up, and an invitation to the producer of the best student film to join the Kodak delegation at a prestigious film festival or other valuable networking event. CINE Golden Eagle winners may be entered in overseas competitions. CINE has a long history of entering Golden Eagle Award winners in international festivals and exhibitions, most recently in the 2005 EKOTOP Film Festival in Bratislava, where CINE's participation was sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Slovakia. CINE also has a prized relationship with the Worldmediafestival® in Hamburg, Germany.
