OUR MISSION: African Continuum Theatre Company produces and presents theater in the nation's capital from an African-American perspective and experience. African Continuum productions, which may be drawn from a universal body of literature, shall reflect an aesthetic rooted in the African and African-American experience, strive for broad audience appeal and endeavor to reveal the interconnectedness of all humanity. GOALS: African Continuum will adhere to high standards of artistic expression and presentation, striving always to challenge, uplift and stimulate its audiences through the exploration of new and evolving theatrical forms, as well as the reconsideration of classic works. HISTORY: From 1989 to 1996 African Continuum Theatre Coalition (ACTCo) was a membership service organization designed to promote African American theatre. The African Continuum Theatre Company made its debut as a producing organization in 1996. Since that time it has been focused on producing professional theatre that reflects the African American experience. The organization is firmly established as a professional resident theatre company committed to producing a full season of work that celebrates the African American theatre legacy and nurtures new work by African American artists.
