Info
As a boutique furniture and furnishing manufacturer, Raven Vale Gallery specializes in hand-crafted items in the Arts and Crafts tradition. Our pieces are crafted separately, giving each object an individual presence. We offer reproductions of antique pieces or create original designs for your unique and discriminating taste. The typical hardwoods used are quartersawn or flatsawn oak (typically white, but we do use red oak on occasion), cherry, maple and walnut. If you have a particular type of wood in mind for a piece of furniture you would like constructed, please let us know. While we do not expressly work in exotic woods as they are a scarce and difficult to renew natural resource, some of the accents on our pieces can be from exotic wood or domestic wood treated to mimic exotic. Most of our quartersawn oak furniture and furnishings are ammonia fumed in the traditional "Stickley" manner, giving the rich, warm color found in most Arts and Crafts style furniture. We can also stain or dye a piece to suite your particular taste or match your existing decor. While we craft unique pieces as well as reproductions, we are pleased to offer you what you may want in a piece of furniture. Too often, people don't seem to find exactly what they may have in mind for a particular piece of furniture. In that instance, our ability to design, create and duplicate becomes a tremendous advantage to our clientele. We will work with you, using your ideas and giving substance to your general concepts with sketches and more detailed drawings of your piece. From that point, the furniture making process takes over. Thus, your own ideas and visions are turned into your real treasures. All of our pieces incorporate mortise and tenon construction techniques in various forms. This not only ensures an aesthecially pleasing creation that is faithful to the Arts and Crafts style and tradition of fine furniture making, it also ensures that the piece of furniture or furnishing will be just as strong when it is passed on to your heirs as it is today. Please contact us if you have a particular piece of furniture in mind or would like to discuss something original. You can send us a sketch, photocopy or scan of a design you have in mind - working together, we can make it a reality. Thank you for visiting and stop back often for updates and photos as current pieces become completed.
