Info

Southern Michigan Obedience Training Club ("SMOTC") was established in 1948 as a non-profit organization. All SMOTC trainers and assistants are unpaid volunteers who participate solely for the joy of the sport and the love of dogs. Over 50 members strong, we are proud to be the only AKC Member Obedience Club in Southeastern Michigan. Southern Michigan's primary goal is to teach people how to train their dogs so that the dogs can become better Canine Companions, and to encourage participation in dog activities such as AKC Obedience Competition, Rally, and Therapy Dog work. It's just that simple. We start with the basics: puppy socialization and beginner foundation obedience classes are designed to help every dog improve his manners and strengthen the bond with his owner. From there, we offer continued classes in advanced obedience, AKC competition preparation, Rally performance competition, AKC Canine Good Citizen exercises, and Therapy Dog International skills. We have been conducting training classes for nearly 60 years, so you can be confident in the methods and processes you and your dog will learn with us. SMOTC welcomes dogs of all ages and breeds, including mixed breed dogs. We encourage and applaud people who choose to rescue dogs awaiting adoption through shelters, rescue groups, etc. SMOTC demonstrates our support of these adoptions by offering a "Rescue Rebate": Upon completion of your first SMOTC class with your rescued dog, SMOTC will refund $25 of your tuition for that class. Ask your Head Trainer for an application, or contact SMOTC directly at doginfo@smotc.org .
