Morgan Miller Blair was founded in April 1985 by three Oakland lawyers, Bert Morgan, Ken Miller and Dick Blair. The firm began with six lawyers, including Marilyn Morris who practices with the firm today. The Firm was unusual for the breadth of its practice even in its early years. It provided a broad range of business and real estate counseling, estate planning and business and real estate litigation representation. In 1987, the Firm opened a branch office in Walnut Creek. Two years later, in 1989, the Firm consolidated its operations in Walnut Creek. By that time, the Firm had grown to ten lawyers. It continued to provide representation in its traditional practice areas, with particular emphasis in the health care and home building industries. By 1995, Morgan Miller Blair's tenth year anniversary, the Firm had grown to approximately twenty lawyers. The Firm grew both internally and externally by attracting top lawyers from the largest San Francisco firms who were attracted by the opportunity to continue to perform high quality work but in a smaller firm setting. Members of the Firm also provided high quality leadership to the Bar and numerous civic organizations. Morgan Miller Blair continued to grow and by 2000 had approximately twenty-five lawyers, continuing to attract big firm lawyers who were looking for better life/work opportunities. The Firm expanded its core practice areas to include intellectual property, technology litigation, and the representation of technology companies in all of their legal needs. On the real estate front, the Firm strengthened its position in the home building industry, as it represented the majority of national and regional home builders in their legal needs. To date, the Firm has grown to over thirty lawyers. Morgan Miller Blair continues to be a business law firm, with substantial expertise in real estate transactions and litigation, intellectual property counseling and litigation, land use, mergers and acquisitions, technology litigation, individual and corporate tax planning and employment counseling. We provide estate planning to high net worth individuals. Our clients also now include European and Asian corporations who are transacting business in California.
