The Wallingford Co-op is the only cooperative nursery school in this area. It is run by parents, who may choose to help in their child's classroom an average of 1 to 2 mornings per month. (Parents who choose not to co-op pay a higher tuition). At the co-op the emphasis is on socialization, self-respect, respect for others and development of the child's confidence through fun and practical introduction of kindergarten-readiness skills. We offer a 2 or 3 morning per week class for 3-year-olds. Children must be 3 by September 1 and toilet trained to start school in September. We offer a 3, 4 or 5 morning-per-week class for 4 and 5 year-olds. Children must be 4 by September 1 to start school in September. We also offer a Kindergarten Complement program for children attending the local districts' half-day Kindergarten programs. This program offers a morning and an afternoon session 3 days per week. Click here to see our hours of operation. Co-op classes are small, with a very good adult-to-child ratio. Parents are welcome in the classroom and are integral to program extras like field trips, cooking and special class celebrations. Periodic extended days are offered (children bring lunch to school), and we have several traditional special events: the Ice Cream Social, Fathers Night, the Spring Program and Field Days. At the co-op, all children have one half hour per week of both gym and music. Families get to know each other at the co-op, leading to an intimate, friendly atmosphere in which the children bloom.
