SEMCO was originally founded in 1984 as an entity positioned to provide engineering services and management support to the Department of Defense. The entire business base consisted of government contracts, many of which were set-aside for small business and small minority-owned business concerns. In addition, the nature of the company's government support has fostered the development and retention of highly technical key engineers and technologists, augmented by senior management that is well versed in military acquisition systems and large scale integration programs. Today, SEMCO has managed to sustain its technological advantage and systems integration expertise to emerge as the recognized market leader in wireless surveillance products/systems/services (i.e. covert and overt) and ground-based telemetry receivers. SEMCO is recognized as one of the few US suppliers of complex wireless voice, video and data systems for federal law enforcement agencies. This market position is a based upon the combination of required facility and personnel security clearances, broadcast quality video transmission and reception products/systems, an acute understanding of the various applications and a detailed customer knowledge base. The company's ability to provide complete ‘turn-key' systems and apply its core competence in large-scale systems integration separates SEMCO from the majority of the competition. As a result, the company currently holds multi-year, classified contracts with the Departments of Justice and Homeland Defense for its entire product line of goods and services. Moreover, due to the consolidation of large-scale telemetry manufacturers over the past five years, SEMCO has emerged as one-of-only a few U.S. suppliers to the government of PC-based ground telemetry systems and telemetry range receivers. Accordingly, SEMCO is strategically positioned for the emerging U.S. military range upgrade programs. By combining experience in wireless products and RF communications, SEMCO has developed products for ground robotic systems that require wireless command and control coupled with broadcast quality video. The company is currently providing these products and engineering services to both military and commercial versions of the newest class of small tele-operated robotic systems and is again strategically positioned to support the burgeoning military and law enforcement robotic requirement.
