Info
Equator Books is an organization created for the sole purpose of finding, packaging and distributing high-quality literary product to consumers who appreciate the value of great writing, fresh ideas and original voices. Through retail and publishing, Equator Books will constantly strive to break new ground in the literary industry by discovering and promoting the best writers and creating a niche market for readers and cultural enthusiasts whose interests are not met by the traditional marketplace. Our mission is to promote the art of writing, to package passion, celebrate invention and distribute quality. Equator Books, owned and operated by Philip Fracassi and Michael Deyermond, is designed to meet the creative and intellectual interests of the artistic Venice community. The bookstore and art gallery sell rare and out-of-print collectible editions of books in categories including art, photo, literature, design, architecture and poetry. The store also features L.A.'s largest collection of out-of-print Surfing titles and African-American literature, as well as special categorical subjects such as Japanese literature, movie titles, prostitution, crime and drugs, circus freaks and music. Equator Books is an outgrowth of Los Angeles-based Equator Books Publishing, established in 1998 by Philip Fracassi. Fracassi previously spent six years as a senior executive at House of Blues Entertainment, Inc. -- the world's second largest concert promoter, and prior to that worked in film and television production. Deyermond has worked in the book and art industries for a decade and was previously the manager of Arundel Books in Beverly Hills. Equator Books is open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and until 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Information on exhibits and events are available at www.equatorbooks.com.
