SWMC operates 360 licensed beds. An additional 82 beds are on the horizon when we complete our expansion project in December 2006. An active medical staff of nearly 600 physicians includes physicians whose clinical excellence is well-recognized regionally and nationally. All of this is supported by a staff of over 3,200 highly skilled professionals. Established in June of 1858 as the first permanent hospital in the Northwest Territories, we are now the largest private employer in Clark County and one of the major employers in the Portland metropolitan region. SWMC received the National 100 Top Hospitals award four times (1994, 1999, 2000, 2002). We have also received National 100 Top Hospitals awards in the orthopedics and cardiovascular categories. To better protect the health of our patients, visitors and staff, SWMC is a tobacco-free facility. Southwest Washington Medical Center accepts nearly all insurance plans.
