StephenGeorge
Info
StephenGeorge was established in April 2003, shortly after I graduated from the prestigious North Bennet Street School, in Boston (see the links section). The focus of the Cabinet and Furniture Making program at NBSS is traditional furniture designs from the seventeenth century, to the early nineteenth century. There is a strong emphasis on hand tool skills and techniques, however, the use of modern power equipment is encouraged in order that one might become an efficient and competitive furniture maker. The joinery and shaping skills required to construct the highest style period furniture can be applied to any design, to create a beautiful and functional piece of furniture, which will literally last for generations. We are located on Mineral Spring Avenue in Providence RI, on the third floor of a renovated textile mill. We share this address with over forty artists, sculptors, photographers, and many other unique businesses. There are two "open studio strolls" organized each year, a wonderful opportunity to view an array of crafts, while meeting the artists. I will post the dates of the strolls as soon as they are available. Potential clients are welcome to visit my shop and showroom any time, I just ask that you call ahead to ensure that I am not at the lumber yard (401-864-2573). On November twenty-sixth StephenGeorge hosted the second annual artisans cocktail party. We were once again joined by four diverse and very talented artists. Each year we will strive to bring an array of artists, all working in different mediums. You can always expect oil on canvas and water color artists, jewelry designer/makers, and at least one furniture maker. Photography, gilding, ceramics, and custom handbags have all been previous participants in this eclectic event. Please send us your mailing address to receive an invitation this fall.
