Altus was founded in 1996 by Michael McLain after a career in sales and sales management with Xerox Corporation, Penske (Roger) Corporation and Smart Document Solutions. Originally the company focused on contingent recruiting for business to business sales professionals. Later the company also added a niche in recruiting SBA Business Development Officers (BDO's) due to a relationship with the Bank of Yorba Linda. The company was very successful in this niche and added many other customers nationwide and also began placing underwriters, credit analysts, loan packagers, loan auditors, etc. This developed into a full scale banking placement group which is now one of the most successful on the West Coast. From the beginning the company has continued to place B to B sales professionals in a variety of industries (technology, business services, banking, financial services, etc.) in the California market. In 2006 Altus added a contract staffing group serving the Information Technology (IT) community in Southern California. This group is led by Tyler Smith, who has more than 15 years of experience in IT recruiting, IT project implementation and staffing company management.
