IBT expands and improves print engine fleet ... IBT has invested in the newest technologies again in our never-ending quest to advance the quality and efficiency of digital book manufacturing. This time we doubled the effort by adding IBM Infoprint 4100 digital web press and Xerox Nuvera 120 digital print systems. The IBM Infoprint 4100 has extended the benchmark in printer performance, reliability, and productivity. Providing superior levels of image and text quality traditionally available only from cut sheet solutions, the Infoprint 4100's hardware enhancements include technological advancements in the printhead, developer and fusing mechanisms, plus an integrated optical density feedback system for sharp, clear images and text, job after job. Software enhancements include customized, selectable halftones with four screen frequencies and an innovative 256-level grayscale simulation of color objects using IBM patented technologies. The InfoPrint 4100 helps increase IBT's print capacity to over 100 million pages per month. Per Xerox, the name "Nuvera" says it all. It was coined from Latin meaning "new truth" and expresses the provision of new levels in quality, productivity, flexibility and reliability. IBT is especially excited about the leap forward in print quality. Although we have been using digital printing systems for multi-short-run jobs for fifteen years, we always seek higher image quality. The Nuvera 120 satisfies this need by providing a printer resolution comparable to 4,800dpi x 600dpi. Additionally, users can select from 134, 125 or 156 lines per inch when printing. The high resolution ensures sharp and clear text, while the combination of 134 lines per inch and 256 shades of gray for halftone prints and photos ensure natural reproduction even in areas with weak or faint contrast. IBT expects to replace its Xerox DocuTech fleet with the Nuvera 120 in 2006.
