Crystal IS was incorporated and founded in New York State, in March of 1997. The company recently relocated from the RPI Incubator center, to the Green Island Tech Park. With a management team of highly educated, experienced, and innovative scientists, Crystal IS is the creation of co-founders, Dr. Leo Schowalter and Dr. Glen Slack. The company's current focus is on the development of a proprietary technique for growing larger and higher quality AlN crystals and in September 2004, Crystal IS raised $5.1M in it's first round of funding to commercialize the AlN growth process and develop a substrate suitable for production manufacturing applications. In May 2006, Crystal IS released the world's first native 2-inch AlN substrates with etch pit densities. Read more about the technology.
