ANNUAL PROPERTY REVIEWS BEGIN NEXT WEEKThe Town of Northfield contracts with Cross Country Appraisal Group LLC (CCAG) for property assessing services.  Each year CCAG assessors visit one-quarter of the improved properties in town to help ensure the accuracy of the information on the property assessment cards.This year’s property assessments are due to begin on Monday April 28th.  The CCAG appraisers will be visiting properties listed on tax maps R06, R10, R11, R12, R13, R14, R15 (please check your tax bill for your map number), If your property is scheduled to be visited this year you will receive a card in the mail from CCAG during the week of April 21st. All appraisers have ID badges and signs on their cars. A list of the appraisers with their pictures and license information is available by clicking here, at the Town Office and Police Station. You are not obligated to let the appraisers on your property, but it will help us insure that the next assessment is accurate.  If you do not want an appraiser going onto your property, please contact the Town Office at 286-7039. The appraisers are there to measure the exterior of all buildings on the property.  If the homeowner or occupant is home the appraiser will ask to walk through the interior of the buildings. If nobody is home the appraisers will measure the outside of the buildings and leave a note stating that they were at the property and that the homeowner will be contacted at a later date to request an interior inspection.The appraisers will only enter a building if there is a person 18 years of age or older to show them through the building. CHANGED YOUR OIL LATELY?If you need to dispose of used motor oil please bring it down to the Northfield Transfer Station.  The Transfer Station can take oil from any non-commercial source in town and will use it to heat both their facility and the Highway Garage.  The taxpayers save about $10,000 a year by heating these two buildings with used motor oil.2014 DOG LICENSES ARE IN!!Dogs need to be registered by April 30.  Please come in or call us at 286-4482 to request registration by mail.  We can also check if your dog’s rabies vaccination is up-to-date.License fees:       Puppies (4-7 months)      $6.50       Spayed or Neutered        $6.50       Male/Female                   $9.00       Owner over age 65          $2.00  (first dog only, additional dogs at regular price)       Kennel/Group Home       $20.00 (must have 5 or more dogs to qualify)If you no longer have a dog, please let us know so we may update our records.TAX RATE DROPS BY $1.17(posted 11/1):  Northfield’s taxpayers will see a dip in the tax rate when bills are mailed out later this week.  The 2013 tax rate is $26.83, or $1.17 less than the 2012 rate of $28.00.   The overall decrease is the result of a lowering of the town, county and local school portions of the tax rate. This was partially offset by increases in the TN Fire District and state school portions of the tax rate.   Once again in 2013 the Northfield Selectmen were able to use funds from the town undesignated fund balance to help offset the taxpayers’ burdens and keep the overall tax rate as low as possible. This year’s property assessments are due to begin on Monday April 28th.  The CCAG appraisers will be visiting properties listed on tax maps Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-priority:99; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin-top:0in; mso-para-margin-right:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:10.0pt; mso-para-margin-left:0in; line-height:115%; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin;}
