ThorpeWood is a mountain retreat for at-risk youth. Our primary mission is to provide exceptional customized programs for young people through long-term partnerships with selected schools and youth organizations locally as well as in Baltimore and Washington. We provide some aspects of our outcome-based programs at ThorpeWood and others on site at the partner institutions. Typically, intact groups of approximately 24 young people from each partner institution receive 14 ThorpeWood experiences per year for 3-5 consecutive years. Modifications are made based on the needs of each institution. Progress on stated goals and outcomes for each group are assessed on an ongoing basis. In addition to our commitment to providing customized programs for at-risk youth, ThorpeWood also promotes sustainable living and encourages environmental stewardship through community programs and selected ecology programs, some of which are offered in partnership with local colleges and universities. We fund all of these programs by renting our facilities for weddings, conferences, meetings and retreats, by seeking grants, and by gratefully accepting the donations of those who share our vision.
