"Tradition Meets Innovation at Bracey's in Thomasville." Tucked away in the heart of Thomasville's celebrated downtown historic district may be one of the South's best-kept secrets in architectural millwork and quality building products. In 1858, the tradition of creating beautiful, well-crafted fine woodwork began at the Thomasville Variety Works. Monsel Bracey continued that tradition when he acquired the business in 1932 and changed its name to Bracey Lumber Company. The 25,000 square foot building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Reflecting the expanded and updated nature of the business for the new millennium, president John Bracey, Jr. refers to the business simply as Bracey's in order to link the best of the past with innovative new products, services and ideas for the future. For three generations, the foundation of Bracey's has been built on a firm commitment to the core values of quality and integrity. The materials and workmanship of their custom mouldings, flooring and woodwork have received nationwide accolades, from the White House and State Department in Washington, D.C. to the fine homes of Sea Island and Savannah, Georgia. Being proud of the ability to continually improve quality and customer service, Bracey's is one of the few custom millwork businesses that can be called upon to faithfully and accurately reproduce the woodwork for historic restorations, as well as for new construction and remodeling projects. Bracey's produces beautiful custom architectural millwork including custom items such as mantels, moulding patterns, radius mouldings, entrance frames, sashes, cabinetry and paneled rooms, doors, louvers, even custom stair parts, and much more. As shown in the accompanying photograph of the Woodhaven Plantation home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Loudermilk, one of the most amazing sights to see in their shop is the construction of a graceful, sweeping, circular staircase that will then be dismantled and carefully reconstructed piece by piece at the construction site. Known for their work in "hard to find" lumber such as old heart pine, Bracey's has vast resources for finding just the right woods, veneers and hardware to make each customer's project unique and special. Bracey's reputation for integrity is well known throughout the Southeast. Simply put, they do what they say they are going to do. Anyone who has been involved in construction can attest to the fact that this is a rare commodity in the building industry. The reason they have such an excellent reputation in this area is that they are a small company with a team of dedicated professionals and craftsmen who work directly with the customer to achieve his goals. According to John Bracey, "Our foremost job is to see that we make your dream come true. At Bracey's our capabilities are limited only by your imagination!" Bracey's long tradition as a custom millwork manufacturer is complemented by its growing reputation as a favorite distributor of numerous fine lines of millwork products. In the spacious showroom located at 300 West Jefferson Street, customers can browse, compare and choose the perfect products for their building projects with attentive assistance from a very professional, knowledgeable staff. Because windows and doors are a specialty, Bracey's represents some of the best manufacturers in the country including Eagle Window and Door, Wood Harbor Door, Sun Door Company, Pinecrest, Caradco Window and Door Company, and National Window and Door Company. These fine companies provide window and door products that are made to order for the Bracey's customer. Hardware lines feature many of the newest, most popular styles from Omnia Hardware, Hager Hardware, Emtek, Rocky Mountain Rustic and Nostalgic Warehouse. Ceiling domes, mouldings, and medallions from well-known Focal Point and Fypon are available as are columns by Hartmann Sanders and Henderson Black and Greene. Also on display are popular cabinet lines such as Schrock Cabinets, Decora Cabinets. And, countertop materials run the gamut from wood and traditional laminates by Wilson Art and Formica to stunning contemporary and traditional styles in granite, marble and Corian. The staff at Bracey's is eager to be of service to their customers from the initial idea stage of a project through its design, construction, installation and completion. Their prices are very competitive with the large, impersonal warehouse-type building supply stores in the area, but the personal service and attention to detail provided by their experienced personnel cannot be matched. As the logo on their delivery trucks proudly boasts, "Quality is not expensive, it is priceless."
