BNSF Railway operates more than 1,000 trains a day on one of the largest freight rail transportation networks in North America, with 32,500 route miles in the western two-thirds of the United States. Its track reaches 28 states and two Canadian provinces. It was formed by the merger of two great railroads, Burlington Northern and Santa Fe, and is the product of nearly 400 different railroad lines that merged or were acquired over 160 years.
