ITFlorida.com, Inc. is an umbrella, not-for-profit, membership organization that represents Florida's diverse technology community on a statewide basis. In the last twenty years, technological advances have provided the tools necessary to make both business and society more efficient. Virtually everything has been impacted by the new high-tech state of doing business. Countless industries, such as automobile manufacturing, the fast food restaurant business, medical research, agriculture, tourism, entertainment and almost every other business sector have built their individual businesses around the computer, a tool that has done nothing more than help us store vast quantities of information and communicate that information within the marketplace. Widespread use of the computer has done for the international marketplace what the telephone and telegraph did for the national marketplace in the late 1800s-the world has become smaller while the market has become larger. The smallest businesses are now capable of marketing their goods and services to the world. The information technology (IT) sector is the cornerstone for the emerging knowledge-based economy, and other states and countries are competing fiercely to attract and retain technology-based industries. With its geography, strong technology base, and entrepreneurial culture, Florida is well-positioned to become a leader in the international high-technology market. Florida already has strong relationships with Latin America and Mexico and is capable of enhancing its relationship with countries on the other continents. ITFlorida will help Florida become the leading high-tech State in the country and increase Florida's competitiveness in the international market. Before ITFlorida, Florida has had no one, entirely Florida-focused, effective entity to unite the many existing high-tech industrial sectors and regions in the State. ITFlorida is that organization. As an umbrella organization designed to provide its members with access to lawmakers, businesses, capital, and domestic and foreign technology leaders, ITFlorida's technology leadership will enable Florida's high-tech sectors to speak as one.
