Onondaga Community College is part of the State University of New York. It recently announced its establishment of a lean manufacturing training initiative and facility to provide training for the central New York manufacturing community. This has been made possible by a partnership between the manufacturing community, government and academia with US$1.5 million in funding provided by the Onondaga County Legislature, US$1.3 million by the State of New York and US$676,000 in a Department of Labor training grant. Business leaders of all central New York-based manufacturers, including New Venture Gear, Carrier Corporation, Welch-Allyn and Darco Manufacturing, will be invited to attend the lean manufacturing facility's open house in October, 2001.
