The Suter Company, Inc. was founded in 1925 in Palatine, IL by the late Charles B. Suter. At the time of its inception, the Company processed poultry and distributed fresh meat and eggs to restaurants throughout Northern Illinois. During the early years, the Company remained small as it struggled to survive the many challenges presented by the Great Depression and World War II. Through hard work, persistence, and strong moral values, Charles was able to hand a successful family business to his two sons (George and Chuck) in the early 1950's. Under the guidance of the second generation of Suters, the Company began to expand its product offering and distribution network. In the early 1950's, the Company discontinued the slaughtering operation and began canning poultry. Suter was one of the first companies in the US to can de-boned chicken, thus providing a safe source of shelf stable protein for various food service institutions. Its primary product line at the time, Canned Boned Chicken, was carried by hundreds of Foodservice Distributors nationwide. By 1970, a line of canned entrée salads was introduced including Chicken, Tuna, Ham and Egg Salads. These items quickly gained national distribution and were sold along side the canned poultry products to thousands of restaurants, schools, hospitals, correctional facilities and other foodservice operators. In 1984, the Company introduced a line of high quality refrigerated entrée salads. Primary customers for these products included restaurant chains, supermarket delis, sandwich makers and warehouse clubs. Over the years this line has been expanded to include specialty salad products and a line of high quality dips and spreads. In 1990, Tim and Dan Suter, sons of George, became the third generation involved in the ownership and management of the Company. Chuck Suter left the Company in 1983 and George Suter retired from active management in 1998. In 1992, a unique line of shelf-stable lunch kits was introduced to the vending trade. This successful new product offered another avenue for growth as the Company gained its first presence on the grocery store shelf. Today, these lunch kits are sold under our Sycamore Farms® brand and are also co-packed for one of the leading retail brands in the United States. Each lunch kit includes a 3oz can of Chicken, Tuna, Seafood, or Ham Salad attractively packaged with 6 crackers and a spoon. The products can be found in the canned fish and meat section of supermarkets, wholesale clubs, dollar stores and vending companies throughout the United States and Canada. In 1998, another innovative product, the Deviled Egg Kit, was added to the Company product line. Almost overnight, this product gained national distribution in the full-service and self serve deli sections at many of the nation's top grocery chains. This unique product allows any deli to quickly merchandise freshly made Deviled Eggs in a fraction of the time and effort needed to make this popular item from scratch. The Suter Company has been successful for over 80 years by focusing on the needs of its customers and providing innovative, top quality prepared food products backed with outstanding service. The Company remains committed to the values of its founder as it looks forward to continued success in the 21st century.
