iCOPE Technologies GmbH

iCOPE was founded in 1991 by Deepak Nakra in Bangalore, which is our global headquarters and the location of our primary development center. It all began when Deepak decided to come back to India after a 10 year stint in Germany. Reinhart Laumer, the MD of Intercope GmbH, based in Hamburg, requested him to set up a workbench for Intercope in India to meet the increasing demands for their services. Their meeting led to the genesis of a Joint Venture in India to function as an extended workbench and cost center for Intercope, dedicated to developing software for Telex. Started modestly in June 1991, the company had 5 employees by the year end working on OS/2 and an application for Telex. Soon, the company was working on Fax Software, ISDN Protocols and Interfaces. In 1996, iCOPE decided it wanted to service multiple customers and work on diverse technologies. iCOPE bought out Intercope's stake in the company and a new phase began. In 1997, iCOPE repositioned itself as a provider of services in Telecom, Messaging and Groupware acquiring multiple customers in Germany and USA. iCOPE's first product breakthrough came in 2000 when its first proprietary product iVoice - an Internet based Messaging solution - was launched. Through a strategic alliance with the Bharti Group (India's largest telecom service provider in the private sector), iCOPE offered iVoice to cellular subscribers in Karnataka, INDIA. ICICI Venture Funds Management Company, India's leading venture capital fund, made an investment into iCOPE in 2000. In 2001, iCOPE unveiled its second product iCAS - an integrated desktop communication application suite that runs on both Windows and Linux. In the same year, iCOPE Technologies GmbH - a wholly owned subsidiary - was set up in Düsseldorf, Germany to effectively address the growing German customer base. iCOPE was certified ISO 9001:1994 compliant in May 2001. iCOPE's commitment to quality led to a concentrated effort to register continuous and significant improvement in the quality of its deliverables to customers; it was rewarded in May 2003, when BVQI (Bureau Veritas Quality International) conferred the ISO 9001:2000 certification, which is the equivalent of SEI CMM Level 3. Over the years iCOPE has carved for itself a niche by constantly architecting solutions based on the latest technological advancements. Just to illustrate, iCOPE has developed some very powerful applications in the areas of CTI, Unified Messaging, Mobile Internet and Groupware; these have become widely accepted products of our clients in the technologically advanced markets of USA and Europe.
