Info
HaitianPainting.com is a virtual art gallery featuring traditional and contemporary works of Haitian artists. This site was created in 2000 out of a need to bring Haitian art to the international forefront. HaitianPainting.com has created a space where you, the viewer, is able to interact more meaningfully with the art and artists housed here. Your experience is guaranteed to be both educational and enjoyable. This gallery features the finest selections of Haitian artwork, including works in oil on canvas, bottles, plates and metal. Each piece was selected according to the degree of skill, craftsmanship, originality and artistic interpretation as well as the artist's background and years established in the Haitian art community. For your convenience the gallery is divided into four main areas: Haitian Paintings, Metal Steel Sculpture, Wood Art Sculpture and Ceramic Art. The Haitian paintings gallery features masterpieces of artists as: Andre Pierre, Andre Normil, Jacques Enguerrand Gourgue and Petion Savain. We also feature many self-taught artists such as: Jonas Exume, Calvin Mondesir, Carel Blain and Casimir Pierre. In our Metal steel sculpture gallery, we feature the work of Haiti's greatest living metal sculptor, Serge Jolimeau, Jonas Soulouque, Damien Paul and Janvier Louisjuste. The use of powerful, chimerical images, from the depths of Voodoo tradition, is most evident in their unique work. Their works are amongst the permanent art collection of the Davenport Museum in Iowa. Similarly, in our woodwork sculpture gallery, we feature the work of Nacius Joseph and Ludovic Booz. Nacius Joseph is one of the few remaining sculptors in wood who produces superb quality work, not just "tourist art." Selden Rodman in his book "Where Art Is Joy" classifies him as one of the "Sculptors of Genius". In our ceramic art department we feature many interesting pieces by Fritz Gerald Renelien, Jean Brunel Rocklor, Jean-Phillipe Louissaint, Michel Wanglish, Frantz Laratte, Jean Robert Laratte and Casimir Pierre, whose work is highly pursued by collectors worldwide. We sincerely hope that you will enjoy your tour of this gallery and that it would enrich your understanding of Haitian art and culture. Visit us as often as you can, since we will be updating our exhibits frequently. If you are interested in any particular work, please phone, write, fax or email for further information.
