SABIC® STAMAX is a long glass fibre thermoplastic based on polypropylene that is designed for use in structural applications, where it replaces steel, traditional composites such as GMT and SMC, and engineering thermoplastics reinforced with short glass fibres. The material was designed by SABIC Europe in partnership with Owens Corning. Thanks to its outstanding thermal and mechanical properties, such as a high heat-deflection temperature, low thermal expansion, high stiffness, high impact resistance, low creep and high tensile strength, STAMAX is highly suited to semi-structural applications in the automotive industry. These include front-end modules, dashboard carriers, door modules and under-body shielding. SABIC® STAMAX has gained wide acceptance in these applications and is becoming increasingly popular among European motorcar producers.
