The Stevens Point Brewery is steeped in a history that has transcended the trials of the great Depression and Prohibition. Over 140 years later, the Stevens Point Brewery continues to successfully brew quality beer, just as the brewery's founders, Frank Wahle and George Ruder, did in 1857. This undeniable endurance is a testament of why the Stevens Point Brewery, in Stevens Point, Wisconsin is the 5th oldest continuously operating brewery remaining in the United States of America. Today, the Stevens Point Brewery is proud to be Wisconsin-owned and independently operated. 1857 - Frank Wahle and George Ruder who establish the Stevens Point Brewery first brew Point Beer. 1864 - The Stevens Point Brewery provides beer to troops during the Civil War. 1880's - Point Special Beer becomes the brewery's top-selling brand. 1920's - The Stevens Point Brewery produces near-beer products and soft drinks during Prohibition. 1930's - Wisconsin is home to more than 80 breweries, most of which go out of business after the Great Depression - but the Stevens Point Brewery continues to thrive. 1930's - Two words: Point Bock. This dark lager is introduced and becomes an instant consumer favorite. 1950's - Can production begins. And so the story continues. 1973 - Point Special is rated the #1 American beer in a taste test as reported by Mike Royko, a prominent columnist for the Chicago Daily News. We knew this all along. Now, everyone else does too. 1990 - Growing consumer demand pushes the Stevens Point Brewery to sell Point Special Lager outside Wisconsin for the first time in it's 133-year history. Consumers in Minneapolis, Minnesota are thrilled. 1991 - Other than the love for football, Wisconsin and Illinois now have another love in common. With the incredible growth in demand, Point Special enters the windy city of Chicago and select northern Illinois markets. 1992 - The Stevens Point Brewery is honored as one of the top 200 U.S. businesses as a Blue Chip Enterprise for its progressive, creative use of resources and innovation to meet key challenges and strengthen the company. 1994 - Point Classic Amber is born. The brewery also introduces the 22 oz. bottle to those looking more quality beer in one bottle. And, the infamous Brews, Brats & Bands is held in Stevens Point, WI. A timeless Central Wisconsin tradition has begun. 1994 - The brewery expands its facilities to include the installment of new aging tanks, allowing capacity to increase more than 40 percent. 1997 - The Stevens Point Brewery is nominated for the Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce's "Service Business of the Year" Award. 1997 - As the demand continues for Point Beer products, the brewery constructs a 15,000 sq. ft warehouse facility to house finished goods and streamline the shipping process. 1997 - The Stevens Point Brewery celebrates its 140th anniversary. 2002 - Point Honey Light and White Bière debut in the year-round beer line up. 2002 - Gourmet Soda, Point Premium Root Beer is introduced. 2003 - Augsburger Beers are reintroduced in Wisconsin and Illinois, thanks to the Stevens Point Brewery. 2003 - Point Spring Bock returns as a seasonal favorite. 2003 - Great American Beer Festival; Point Special Lager wins the Gold Medal in the American Premium Lager category, over MGD and Budweiser, and receives national recognition. 2003 - Great American Beer Festival; Augsburger Golden wins the Gold Medal in the Münchner-style Helles Category. 2003 - Stevens Point Brewery hosts the first "Rock the Brewery" featuring Cheap Trick in concert. 2003 - Brewery expands distribution to include the states of Kansas, Missouri, and Iowa. 2004 - Point Cascade Pale Ale is introduced and immediately becomes a favorite among Point Beer Drinkers. 2004 - Point Variety Pack showcasing the entire Point portfolio is offered to consumers. 2004 - Brewery expands distribution to include the states of Michigan and Indiana. 2004 - Augsburger Oktoberfest Beer is introduced. 2004 - Great American Beer Festival; Augsburger Golden takes home the Bronze Medal in the Münchner-style Helles Category. 2005 - Stevens Point Brewery introduces three flavorful new gourmet soda brands: Point Premium Diet Rootbeer, Point Premium Vanilla Cream Soda, and Point Premium Black Cherry Cream. 2005 - Stevens Point Brewery teams up with Cedar Crest Ice Cream to create the World's Largest Root Beer Float at the 2005 Wisconsin State Fair. 19902005 - James Page Beers, including Iron Range Amber, Burly Brown, Voyageur Extra Pale Ale, and White Ox Wheat Ale, are added to the Stevens Point Brewery portfolio, and are offered to markets in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
