Info

Finley Church was begun in 1868 on Wells Run (now Lincoln Avenue) as a society started by old First M. E. Church of Steubenville. The original building was erected in 1869 followed by a new one in 1911. This remains at the front of the present sanctuary. The 75th anniversary was celebrated in 1944, with Rev. E.E. Shiltz as the pastor. An additional wing was added in 1957 and in 1969 a two-day celebration was held honoring our Centennial. On Saturday, September 20th, and Open House was held with an evening of entertainment. The 1911 sanctuary was enlarged in 1970 to seat an additional 200 people. In addition, six new classrooms were added and others were remodeled. A Finley float depicting Francis Asbury won the "best float" trophy in the Steubenville, American Bicentennial Parade. The Women of Finely have been organized for mission since 1911 when the Foreign Missionary Society began. In 1917 a Home Missionary Society began.
