Info

The Sparta Area School District serves 2,667 children with its comprehensive early childhood through twelfth grade system. Students are served beginning with a charter preschool program, five elementary k-3 schools, an intermediate school (grades four and five), a middle school, and a high school. Additionally, students have access to a 7-12 charter program (High Point), an alternative middle school program, and a 9-12 charter school for at-risk students (SAILS). During the 2003-04 school year, 41% of kindergarten through fifth grade students and 38% of Middle School students qualified for free/reduced lunch, while 21% of high school students qualified. The Sparta Area School District is defined as "highly aided" by the state due to our overall economic status. The district is located in rural Monroe County in Western Wisconsin, nestled among scenic bluffs and farm fields. The main employers in the area are Fort McCoy military base, Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Century Foods International, Wal-Mart, Toro Company, Northern Engraving, Cardinal Glass, Inc., area school districts and county agencies, and Valley Pride Packing. The companies manufacture food products, lawn care equipment, automotive stampings, and glass products. Sparta is also home to Mathews Inc, the leading manufacturer of archery equipment. In addition, farming is still a way of life cherished by many families here. With our world-renowned trails, Sparta is known as the "Bicycling Capital of America." Residents enjoy the municipal golf course, ice arena, community center, city pool, lakes and rivers. Downhill & cross-country skiing, tubing, and snowmobiling are just some of the winter activities you'll find in Sparta!
