Openaka specializes in the fields of concrete pressure pipe, precast concrete products, concrete construction, concrete materials and corrosion. Openaka has performed engineering inspections and evaluation of prestressed concrete cylinder pipe (PCCP) since 1979. The firm has developed and uses a number of techniques for evaluating pipelines. The techniques for internal inspection of PCCP lines utilizing visual and sounding techniques were developed by Openaka. These techniques have been used to identify and repair/replace over 150 pipes that were in a state of incipient failure. Openaka was founded in 1979 by Robert Price, P.E., an engineer who understood the value of condition assessment of PCCP mains. Mr. Price's strict adherence to providing thorough condition assessments and sound engineering recommendations led to Openaka's excellent reputation which has continued following Pure Technologies acquisition of the company in 2005.
