IHI Turbo America (ITA) was founded in 1980 as Warner-Ishi Corporation a 50/50 joint venture between IHI and Borg Warner Automotive and a licensee of IHI turbocharger technology. Warner-Ishi's strategy was to build a base of turbocharger business and to begin manufacturing operations in North America. In 1986, Warner-Ishi began manufacture of RHB5 turbochargers in a newly acquired factory in Shelbyville, IL as a supplier to Ford Motor Co. Warner-Ishi was awarded Ford's Q1 award indicating the companies commitment to a dedicated, disciplined quality system. That quality commitment has continued up to the present day and in 1997 the company was certified to QS9000/ISO9001 quality standards. The company is striving to achieve 6 sigma quality levels through strenuous application of our QS9000 certified quality system. Warner-Ishi has continued to produce turbochargers and turbocharger products for customers, such as, Ford, GM, Fiat, Renault, Kohler, Generac, VM Motori, etc. In addition, the company has expanded the manufacturing base in Shelbyville with the on-going acquisition and implementation of state-of-the-art manufacturing and test equipment in order to meet customer demand and quality requirements. In 1998, IHI purchased Borg Warner Automotive shares in the company to become 100% owner and the company was re-named as IHI Turbo America. ITA continues to be a major supplier of turbocharger products in North America and is part of a global network serving the worlds engine manufacturers. This network includes IHI, ITA, ICSI Italy and ICSI Germany. ITA continues to provide the highest technology turbocharger products available in the world today by application of IHI technological developments. These developments include VGS(Variable Geometry System), ceramic and mixed flow turbine wheels, ball bearings, noise and vibration control, inducer treatment and many others.
