Indian River School District
Info
The Indian River School District serves the towns of Selbyville, Frankford, Dagsboro, Gumboro, Fenwick Island, Bethany Beach, Ocean View, Millsboro and Georgetown. Indian River's elementary schools provide strong reading, writing, math, science and social studies programs aligned with the state content standards. Middle schools utilize the team-teaching concept and promote a child-centered academic environment with an accelerated math curriculum. High schools offer a variety of career pathway programs that allow students to take a series of sequential courses in a chosen major. The Indian River School District also has a number of award-winning special programs for students ranging in age from pre-school to high school. Programs are offered for gifted and talented students, and comprehensive special education services are available to those who qualify. Students in all grades are also kept up-to-date on the latest computer technology. The Outdoor Education Center at Ingram Pond gives elementary and middle school students the opportunity to perform hands-on experiments, which expand on the science concepts taught in the classroom. These programs, along with standards-based curricula and instruction, have enabled Indian River's students to score among the state's best in the Delaware State Testing Program (DSTP). In addition, the district's adult education program offers English as a Second Language, computer literacy and defensive driving courses. Every summer, we also offer a series of educational programs for the children of local migrant workers. Despite the large geographic region served by the district, its communities consistently strive to promote, support and assure the very best education for our students. Their efforts, coupled with the dedicated staff's role in determining curriculum and selecting instructional materials, have helped inspire the district's motto:"Brightening Our Children's Future"
