Theatre Babylon is a non-profit theatre company in Seattle that provides an artistic home to audiences and artists. By developing and producing quality affordable theatre with an emphasis on new and world-premiere works as well as fresh, intimate, and contemporary revivals of classic works, we prove there are no small theatres, only limited imaginations. Help us find a new Playhouse! Throughout 2004 we've been working to save the Union Garage, Babylon's theatrical home since 1995. In February the Seattle Fire Department closed down a production of A Theatre Under the Influence's "Blasted," and let us know that we would have to make significant upgrades to our building to maintain our current model of two performance spaces, one for rentals and one that we shared with our sister company. A Theatre Under the Influence left the building and went on indefinite hiatus, while we stayed and finished up our season in high style, breaking box office and attendance records with three of our four shows (The Countess, Wreckage, and Jesus Christ Superstar). Frankly, the costs of renovating our old carriage house were far more than we ever anticipated (approximately $400,000). In light of this, we have elected to relocate and we are very much hoping that you will come along for the ride. At this very moment, Theatre Babylon's Board of Trustees are meeting with their counterparts at several other established arts organizations in Seattle in pursuit of a residency, a partnership, or some other creative way to let Theatre Babylon and a new Playhouse rise from the ashes.
