Rainier Health & Fitness (RHF) is a non-profit fitness center located in southeast Seattle's Rainier Valley. RHF opened its doors in 2005 with a dream; of changing its neighborhood for the better by providing a high quality fitness center at a reasonable price and by promoting the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. The plan has been so successful and RHF's popularity has grown so fast, the fitness center had to recently relocate to a larger facility in order to accommodate all of its new members. The partnership with the Washington Health Foundation began when Rainier Health & Fitness invited our staff to an open house last year. We were so impressed with their plans to improve health in their neighborhood - we offered to donate a computer to the fitness center. Members now use that computer to log on to our website at www.HealthiestState.org and monitor their progress on the road to a healthier life. That computer has become one of the gym's "hot-spots." "Having the computer allows our members to see their goals and their successes right in front of them," Lapp told us, "and that has been a huge motivator." Like our Healthiest State in the Nation Campaign, Rainier Health & Fitness offers numerous challenges throughout the year to keep people active and actively participating. The staff is continuously thinking up new ways to generate excitement around health - and that makes them an exciting partner in our campaign. Rainier Health & Fitness is another example of an organization that understands what we are trying to accomplish. Understands the importance of good health and healthy lifestyles. Understands how together - we truly can make Washington the Healthiest State in the Nation.
