International Coal Group, Inc. (ICG), incorporated in March 2005, is a producer of coal in Northern and Central Appalachia with a range of mid to high British thermal unit (Btu), low to medium sulfur steam and metallurgical coal. The Company's Appalachian mining complexes, which include 11 of its mining complexes, are located in West Virginia, Kentucky and Maryland. It also has a complementary mining complex of mid to high sulfur steam coal located in the Illinois Basin. ICG markets its coal to a customer base of largely investment grade electric utilities, as well as domestic and international industrial customers. As of December 31, 2007, management estimates that the Company owned or controlled approximately 316 million tons of metallurgical quality coal reserves and approximately 649 million tons of steam coal reserves. Further, it owns or controls approximately 512 million tons of non-reserve coal deposits.(Source: 10-K)
