HurleyMedia LLC was founded by Joanna Hurley, who is a book publishing professional with over twenty-five years experience. Although her specialty is marketing, she was trained initially as an editor at Thomas Y. Crowell/Harper & Row, and is knowledgeable about all aspects of the business. She has also been director of publicity for the Body Politic/Community Arts Foundation, which was at the time Chicago's largest off-Loop theatre; and marketing director of the University of New Mexico Press, during which time their sales quintupled and they achieved significant national attention for their photography books. She then returned to New York to be publicity director at Vintage Books, the trade paperback division of Alfred A. Knopf, where she and her colleagues launched five new series, including Vintage International, Vintage Library of America, Vintage Departures, Vintage Crime/Black Lizard, and Vintage Classics. She started her own business in 1992. Joanna has worked on a variety of books throughout her career, including intellectual non-fiction, literary fiction, and business titles. In addition, she has worked on over fifty photography books, on artists such as Irving Penn, Dorothea Lange, Van Deren Coke, Eliot Porter, Bernard Plossu, Richard Misrach, Mark Klett, and many others. She is the president of the board of The Santa Fe Center for Photography, and also sits on the board of the New Mexico Environmental Law Center.
