Named for a Santa Cruz pioneer who devoted her life to the education, freedom and enfranchisement of all, Georgiana Bruce Kirby Preparatory School is an independent, coeducational secondary school serving the Santa Cruz community. Our mission is to offer a college preparatory education of the highest quality with a solid traditional academic curriculum. We foster a community based upon mutual respect where students can develop their academic, artistic, and leadership abilities. GBK is governed by a Board of Directors that works closely with the school's administration and faculty to ensure that the school's policies, programs and procedures remain true to the vision and mission of the institution. The Head of School bears ultimate responsibility for the supervision of the teaching and administrative staff and for the effective implementation of the school's programs and operations. The school's educational program is divided into three divisions: Humanities, Math & Science and the Arts. Each division has its own head, who is responsible for addressing the needs of the staff and courses in that division. The school staff are ably supported not only by the Board of Directors but also by the GBK Parents' Association, whose members are active in helping with field trips, social events, fund raising and community outreach activities.
