RIS is the consulting service of Roland A. Dumas, Ph.D. and associates. The services offered balance insight with systematic implementation approaches. The methodologies are thoroughly grounded in research-derived approaches including behavioral science. Roland Dumas, Ph.D., has a rich background that has origins in rigorous research methods and applies that rigor to business performance issues. Roland had an undergraduate background in research and technology. His graduate education was at Stanford University, where he earned his Ph.D. along with awards and recognition for his research. He was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco to continue a line of research that involved the design and application of computer-based models of human information processing. Roland worked with management consulting companies in Silicon Valley and for a banking services consulting company. He was trained and worked for the Kaizen Institutes of Japan and the US, adapting high productivity and improvement methods to American culture and high growth industries. He was invited by the National Institutes of Standards and Technology to join the fledgling award program, the Baldrige Award, to lead evaluation teams and eventually to sit on the oversight body, the Panel of Judges. In 1985, he began privately taking on small projects in market research under the banner of Roberts Information Services (Roberts is Dumas' wife, who serves as RIS' administrative manager). SInce 1988 Dumas has committed all of his time to developing RIS into a complete management consulting practice, focusing on analytic insight and measurable business improvement. Dr. Dumas served as the Chief Operating Officer at Progress Investment Management Co., a then FleetBoston subsidiary, and recently returned to RIS to focus on strategic leadership issues. RIS Associates are individuals and small consulting firms with expertise in areas ranging from decision science to instructional design.
