WiredPocket, one of the newest entrants, prides itself on digesting Internet content and spewing it onto wireless devices in readable - although graphically inferior - formats. The company launched its new technology last week. "What we're trying to do is give a structured view of the Web," CEO Hassan Alam said in an interview with Wireless Today. "Our goal is to get you the story in three clicks or less." Through a process called "fixed mapping," Wired Pocket's technology analyzes and compresses similar items, then rapidly reformats the items into appropriate packages for different wireless browsers - wireless application protocol or compact HTML. The next challenge is summarizing high bandwidth content for third-generation wireless devices, Alam said. The biggest fans of existing wireless Web services are young male Japanese consumers, who have limited wireline Internet access, he added. In the United States, the corporate traveler is a better target, Alam said. "That's the first thing we're doing - going for system integration and selling to the corporate market," he said. OracleMobile, the wireless application service provider subsidiary of Oracle [ORCL], does the same thing. However, Alam said, WiredPocket's process is faster and broader. The company has $2 million in financing from Draper Fisher subsidiary Timberline Venture Partners, but it has yet to announce any customers for its platform.
