Harm Reduction Therapy Center

The Harm Reduction Therapy Center offers outpatient therapy and treatment services to people interested in an alternative approach to addiction help. The goal of the Harm Reduction Therapy Center (HRTC) is to reduce the damage (to individuals, families, and communities) caused by drug and alcohol use. This may be achieved by changing, reducing, or eliminating drug and alcohol use. HRTC is part of the larger public health harm reduction movement that includes needle exchange programs, safer sex education, and other interventions to prevent the spread of HIV and other diseases. Who is Harm Reduction Psychotherapy for? Harm Reduction Therapy is suited for anyone who: is questioning whether their use of drugs and alcohol is a problem has tried abstinence-based approaches and found them to be ineffective or undesirable relapses frequently after attempts to be clean and sober also suffers from emotional or psychiatric problems and wants help with these issues at the same time prefers an alternative way of thinking about their drug use What does HRTC offer? HRTC offers: individual psychotherapy couples and family counseling group therapy consultation and evaluation services to clients, treatment professionals, attorneys, and other health care providers psychiatric medication evaluation and treatment.These services are all offered at our San Francisco and Oakland offices on a sliding scale basis. HRTC also offers mental health and drug treatment free of charge at community-based agencies in the San Francisco Bay Area:Tenderloin Aids Resource Center EC Reems Academy of Technology and Arts (A K-8 Charter School) Central City Hospitality House Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness Center HRTC Supervises Clinical Services at the Mission Neighborhood Resource CenterHRTC offers fees on a sliding scale basis. Also, HRTC has a training program for therapists, chemical dependency staff, and mental health staff interested in an alternative and integrated approach to treating drug and alcohol use problems. This service is currently offered through its founder's program - Addiction Treatment Alternatives. Although located in the San Francisco Bay Area, HRTC can provide referrals and links to alternative treatment resources nationwide. HRTC is governed by a Board of Directors and guided by an Advisory Council of local and national experts in substance abuse and mental health treatment and research.
