Stella Pastry has been serving traditional Italian specialties to San Francisco natives and international regulars at its landmark North Beach location since 1942. there were two previous owners before our parents, Franco and Mercedes Santucci, who bought it in 1966. the Zanello family were the first owners and the ones who opened it in 1942. in 1960 they sold it to the second owner, Rosa Tesi, who ran the shop with her daughter until 1966, when they decided to return to Genova, where they were originally from. Stella's and the special sacripintina recipe then went to our father, Franco Santucci, who had been their baker since 1961, and his wife, Mercedes Santucci, our mother. They ran the shop together up until 1995, when we, Christina and Silvia, began to help our mother Mercedes with the business. The three of us continued to run the shop together until this past year, at which point we assumed full ownership and responsibility. We have both seen the shop change and grow in different ways over the years. We look forward to continuing, not only our family tradition of supplying great specialties, but the tradition that began in this very building back in 1942, of offering a place where one can experience happiness, joy, and magic, through desserts. The faces and atmosphere have changed a bit with the times, but the oven, the mixers, the recipes and the love that have always been a part of Stella's, remains. We are proud to be a part of such a long history and are excited to continue what has become such a San Francisco tradition.
