The Moscone Convention Center is managed by SMG. The Moscone Convention Center Expansion Project will be a new, free-standing convention facility in close proximity to the existing Moscone Center. The expansion will encompass almost 800,000 square feet of space on the northwest corner of Howard and Fourth streets, one half block west of the existing Moscone convention center. It will provide 300,000 square feet of rentable exhibit space on three floors and include 38 meeting rooms at 125,000 square feet on two floors. Benefits of the expansion include the creation of 2,000 permanent jobs, an increase in hotel occupancy, revenue and visitor spending. Construction on the three story building is set to begin in the year 2000 and is projected to be open to the public by 2003. The existing 1.2 million square foot convention center anchors the central blocks of the 87-acre Yerba Buena Gardens neighborhood. The bustling and vibrant district includes the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, The Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, the Rooftop at the Gardens and the Sony Metreon. The Rooftop at the Gardens, atop Moscone South, is a haven for children of all ages and home to Zeum (a technology and arts center), the Yerba Buena ice skating and bowling centers and a state-of-the-art childcare facility. The complex also features a unique 1906 carousel, hands-on interactive children's garden, a café and concession stands. Across the street, the resplendent Yerba Buena Gardens rests atop Moscone North encompassing six-acres of the neighborhood and includes a "sister cities" garden, two cafes and the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. The purpose of this site is to introduce you to hotels and auto rentals near the Moscone convention center.
