My name is Hanna Bark, I'm the designer and CEO of Mamatotowear, a San Francisco based company that makes the Mamatotowear brand of maternity and nursing clothes and provides Mamas worldwide with our products and other useful things when pregnant and breastfeeding. When I was pregnant with my daughter Dora I had this great big T-shirt with a print on it. I wore it because it fit me, but as I grew the print changed with my belly and became funny, beautiful and cool as it changed both over the course of the day as my baby moved, and also over the months as my belly grew, creating this unique piece of clothing with the body. With my background in Art and Design from my degrees at Parsons School of Design in New York and San Francisco Art Institute in San Francisco, I knew I wanted to make clothes based on the female body in this wonderful state of flux that accommodated the growing, shrinking and constant changing that this awesome part of our lives brings us. I wanted to make clothes for the pregnant and breastfeeding Mama that not only considered all these changes, but were really made for them, never compromising style, function or comfort. In my designs the starting point is the pregnant and breastfeeding body with all its needs and desires (that clothing can fulfill,). For example, our neckline is designed to be both flattering and comfortable- when a lot of women feel warm, air on the neck is oh so nice. Our short sleeves are longer than most, and although form fitted, not tight. I know a lot of my friends and myself included didn't feel comfortable with short, short sleeves, clinging to our arms. In fact, many women's first reaction when wearing our clothes is to rave about our great sleeves! We make clothes that are designed to fit the woman, not only look good but be practical and fulfill their functions. It is everyday clothes that can be washed and dried easily, made of high quality materials that will last. High quality is part of being Eco Friendly. A lot of our designs have a long history, our nursing tops are based on thousand year old solutions to easy access and comfort for the mama that have evolved over the years to end up with our contemporary version of breastfeeding comfort. We are very proud of our products and hope you will enjoy what we do too, our clothes have guaranteed Good Karma, we make sure everyone who works with us works under good circumstances and get paid fair wages. It's important to us that everyone who works with our company, the pattern maker, the fabric cutter, seamstress, printer, designer, everyone, gets paid well and is happy with and proud of their work.
