Founded in Stockholm, Sweden in 1989 by American and British lawyers, TransLegal has grown to become the leader in Legal English products and services. TransLegal's in-house staff of lawyer-linguists is the largest in the world, providing a wide range of products and services to the international legal community, including Legal English testing, online Legal English courses and resources, live seminars and training, translation of legal documents, and publication of Legal English materials. A Chicago lawyer with an LLM from Heidelberg, an English solicitor fluent in Swedish, and a California lawyer who lectures at the University of Paris (Assas) are just a few examples of the diversity and expertise of the lawyer-linguists at TransLegal. In cooperation with Cambridge ESOL, a division of the University of Cambridge, TransLegal has created the Cambridge International Legal English Certificate (ILEC), the world's first internationally-recognised test of Legal English. The ILEC exam is a valuable tool which allows legal employers to assess the English language skills of staff and prospective hirees and gives job-seekers in the legal market a tool for proving proficiency in English.
