Info
Medicity is a highly specialized, clinical solutions company founded by medical informatics experts in Salt Lake City, the academic and commercial hub of medical informatics innovation. Medicity's focus on clinical information distribution, clinical data transformation, clinical systems integration, clinical user interface design, and clinical workflow make us exceptionally qualified to tackle the tough problems of providing clinical information access to physicians outside the hospital. Because of our deep domain knowledge, Medicity has been retained by the nation's largest healthcare organizations to develop sophisticated clinical information solutions that address the complex technical problems associated with data silos and disparate systems in an environment of increased regulatory scrutiny and sensitive inter- and intra-organizational politics. When internal resources fail or need augmentation with technical expertise and clinical knowledge, industry giants depend upon the Medicity's "SWAT team" of professionals to find and build effective solutions. In 2002, Medicity was recognized by Henry Ford Health System with its prestigious Healthcare Innovation Technology Systems Partnership Award for work at the Harbor UCLA Medical Center with Dr. William Stringer. The ambulatory decision support system that Medicity designed and implemented at the Center featured online patient record viewing architected to assist the clinic's transient intern staff in providing continuity of care to an aging patient census with chronic health problems. The solution included disease management functions, alerts, drug lists, a true longitudinal view of clinical results with trending, and a rich menu of other functions constructed to facilitate the physician work paradigm. Other Medicity projects include engagements with the largest provider organizations to integrate legacy systems and provide new levels of secure, authenticated access to patient information over the Internet. A recently completed engagement for a national reference laboratory included the construction of systems interfaces and the execution of highly technical test code mapping required to reconcile the test compendiums of the lab and its sixty-hospital client. In the process, Medicity employed its technology to solve thorny workflow issues intrinsic to the brittle processes employed by the two organizations. In another significant undertaking, Medicity was asked to make utilization data available to authorized providers through a secure portal. The job required summarizing and de-identifying terabytes of confidential patient data, eliminating redundancies that were distorting search results, optimizing table structures for high-performance queries, designing a user-friendly web interface, securing data for Internet transmission, building reporting options, and authenticating users. Medicity's years of history with secure portal technology and web-based clinical applications rank their team of professionals as the veterans in this quickly growing IT market segment. A typical Medicity enterprise physician portal entails numerous interfaces into hospital systems-ADT, LIS, radiology, transcription, and other ancillary systems-to capture patient information, encrypt data for privacy, control access rights, authenticate users, present a unified view of the data, track and log user access, flag abnormal results, custom format reports, batch and route reports for secure printing, provide clinical workflow tools (like a robust clinical inbox), create disease management reports and medical alerts, accept electronic orders, and provide drug interaction checking at the point-of-care. These complex requirements, unique to the healthcare industry, demand sophisticated and experienced personnel. Medicity has assembled a seasoned team of healthcare IT professionals with experience in the specification, construction, and implementation of healthcare's most innovative and difficult clinical information systems. Team emphasis is on broad clinical software experience, a deep understanding of clinical workflow, the flexible application of technology, and mastery of industry standards like HL7, X12, XML, and others.
